Detention Officer Information
GENERAL INFORMATION
Summary
Individuals in this classification will learn to perform the full scope of duties of a non-sworn Detention Officer through an academy and on the job training program. Duties include booking, fingerprinting, verifying identification, guarding and transporting persons in custody.
Pay Range
$20.75 – $28.05 Hourly
Lateral Detention Officer Pay
2-3 years of experience-$20.75 Hourly
4-6 years of experience-$21.79 Hourly
7-9 years of experience-$22.83 Hourly
10+ years of experience-$23.86 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency
- Must have at least one (1) year customer service experience
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Must have the ability to successfully complete a Corrections/Detention academy training program within six (6) months of hire
- Must have the ability to comply with Arizona POST firearm requirements
- Must have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Class C with Passenger Endorsement within six (6) months of hire
- Class C with Passenger Endorsement within six (6) months of hire

APPLICATION PROCESS
Application
During an opening, you must submit an application via Chandleraz.gov.
Background Packet
You must fill out a background packet, and have it notarized once completed.

Oral Board
Applicants passing the oral board will be scheduled for a background interview.
Background Interview
Applicants passing the background interview will be scheduled for a polygraph examination. For out-of-state applicants, we will attempt to complete all of the above steps prior to your departure.
Once these steps have been successfully completed, the background investigation begins.
Conditional Offer
Applicants passing the background investigation will receive a conditional job offer. You will then be scheduled for a psychological exam, drug screen, and an interview with the Police Chief. Applicants passing all of the above steps will receive a final job offer.
