The responsibilities of this unit are to investigate sexually motivated crimes against children and adults. The Sex Crimes Unit is also responsible for the Sex Offender Notification Program that keeps the citizens of Chandler aware of sex offenders residing in their neighborhood.

The Sex Crimes Unit has one detective on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to respond to incidents requiring immediate attention. Each detective is on-call one week at a time and the "on-call" status is rotated within the unit. Members of the Sex Crime/Abuse Unit work hand-in-hand with the Robbery/Homicide Unit and are cross-trained in the investigation of homicides, robberies, death investigations and aggravated assaults.

Detectives assigned to the Sex Crimes Unit must posses excellent investigative skills and receive specialized training in areas such as interview and interrogation, crime scene management, injury interpretation and search and seizure. These detectives also utilize investigative resources such as crime labs for analysis of forensic evidence, information networks for computer database research and specialized medical facilities for the collection of biological evidence.

Sex Crimes Detectives are a team of dedicated individuals who share a common goal - the successful prosecution of suspects who victimize children and adults.
