This unit investigates any family related crime such as domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, stalking, and runaway juveniles. Detectives in this unit receive special training on how to interview children and stay current on domestic violence issues. They also work hand in hand with the sex crimes unit when dealing with child crimes.

The Family Crimes Unit has a working relationship with Child Protective Services, Juvenile Probation, the Center Against Family Violence in Mesa, and Childhelp USA. This enables the victims and their families to receive a variety of services.

There is at least one detective from this unit on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A detective will respond out to a scene immediately if necessary in order to investigate a case.
