Police Seek Applicants For Citizens Academy

CHANDLER, AZ-The Chandler Police Department will once again host a Citizen Police Academy starting Wednesday, August 16th, 2008 and ending on July 9th, 2008. In 1994, Chandler Police began its first Citizen Police Academy program to develop citizen awareness and understanding of the role of law enforcement. The goal of the program is to teach citizens about the guidelines within which an officer functions and why officers handle situations as they do. The program is 13 weeks long, with classes being held every Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chandler Police Department’s Community Room located at 250 E. Chicago Street.
Some of the courses taught include: Media and the Law, Firearm Training, Gang Awareness, Patrol Functions, K-9 program, Criminal Investigations/Narcotics, Traffic Law, and Use of Force.
Students must be at least 18 years of age and either work, live or attend school in the City of Chandler. Class size is limited to 40 students.
