Officer Involved Accident

CHANDLER, AZ. On Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at approximately 3:30 P. M., Officer Pennell, a motorcycle officer assigned to the Traffic Enforcement team, was involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle at the intersection of Arizona Avenue and Elgin Street, in Chandler, Arizona. As a result of this collision, Officer Pennell received non-life threatening injuries and was flown to a local area hospital. Officer Pennell was responding, with the lights and siren on his motorcycle activated, to assist another officer who was fighting with a wanted felon. The wanted felon had a caution advisory.
A caution advisory is a notice to officers to use caution when arresting this particular subject, as the wanted person is known to fight police or has a history of violence or is known to carry weapons.
The accident is currently under investigation. The wanted felon was taken into custody and the arresting officer was not injured.
Officer Pennell is a nine-year veteran of the Chandler Police Department.
