How does the Law Enforcement Torch Run Benefit Arizona Special Olympics?
Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization providing year-round training and competition to over 7,000 Special Olympics Athletes in the State of Arizona.
As a nonprofit organization, Special Olympics Arizona does not receive any funds from government agencies or the United Way. It is supported entirely by private donations, corporate sponsorships and fundraising activities. There is never a cost to the athletes to participate, Special Olympics Arizona pays for all participation fees.
In 2003, through the efforts of law enforcement personnel, Arizona businesses and civic organizations, the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised over $210,000 for Special Olympics Arizona. 2004 marks the 19th anniversary that the Chandler Police Department has participated in the Torch Run. The Law Enforcement Torch Run has raised several million dollars for Special Olympics athletes in the State of Arizona.
