Sherry Kiyler, Police Chief

Sherry Kiyler joined the Chandler Police Department in February of 2004 after serving the citizens of Phoenix and the Phoenix Police Department for over 31 years. Chief Kiyler, an Arizona native, brought a wealth of experience to Chandler after having served in a number of capacities throughout her law enforcement career. While with the Phoenix Police Department, she served as the Command Staff Representative to the Labor Management Committee and as the Project Manager for both auto theft reduction efforts and violent crime impact. She was instrumental in the development of a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing program for police employees as well as a Victim Assistance program. She has received state and national recognition for her efforts to assist victims of violent crime and is actively involved with the Parents of Murdered Children (POMC).
During her tenure in Chandler, Chief Kiyler has worked diligently toward attaining the established strategic goals of the department: Crime suppression, to make Chandler an even safer place to live, work, and play; strengthening relationships and partnerships with internal City customers as well as with community members and organizations and other Valley law enforcement agencies; and continued development of the department’s infrastructure. Under her watch, the department has grown to more than 500 employees and has opened two substations to better serve the citizens at the far reaches of the City of Chandler.
In an effort to enhance cooperation among the law enforcement agencies in the East Valley, to share information, and to build partnerships to promote efficiency in crime prevention and detection, Chief Kiyler, along with Police Chiefs from Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, and other East Valley agencies, established the East Valley Police Chiefs Association in 2008. She served as its inaugural chairperson.
In addition to her years of experience instructing law enforcement personnel in a variety of topics, Chief Kiyler has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Phoenix where she has instructed courses in the criminal justice program.
Chief Kiyler holds a Bachelor's degree in Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. She is committed to providing the best service possible to the Chandler community. |
