Richard Felix
Officer #151
Richard Felix was born in Chandler on June 27, 1935. He graduated from Chandler High school and went on to get his college degree from Arizona State University.
Richard’s heart and love from the people in this community brought him back home to teach the children he loved so much. When Richard was not at school, you would find him at home helping a child with homework or repairing a broken bike. The children always knew “Mr. Felix could fix anything and do it for free.” Richard always treated everyone fairly and was a friend to everyone.
Richard always had a goal of someday joining the Chandler Police Department. He felt he could help close the communication gap between officers and the Spanish-speaking public, first as a school resource officer and then as a translator. Richard assisted in formalizing the certified translator program at the department.
In addition to all the Christmas gifts Richard gave out on his own, he also joined 700 other Arizona law enforcement officers as a Police Santa for the W. Steven Martin Police Toy Drive each holiday.
Richard Felix made Chandler a safer and more special community for his family and friends as well as for everyone he met. Richard lived his dream and is missed by all of us.
Officer Richard Felix was found unconscious in his patrol car on September 9, 1995. He died of heart failure.
